Samba Mapangala was born in what is now Congo. He moved to Uganda in 1975, and then to Nairobi in 1977. He formed a new band, the Orchestra Virunga, in 1981. Orchestra Virunga recorded It’s Disco Time with Samba Mapangala in 1982. He has continued to record, and is still one of the leading musicians in East Africa. He is now based in the United States.
Born in the western Algeria, Farid at an early age was very oriented to music. His first musical instrument, an acoustic guitar that was a present on his eight birthday, opened for him the opportunity to discover the world of music. He started learning and practicing the guitar by listening to a variety of legends including Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Genesis, and Santana.
